PoE Switch · 250 Metres
Standard Ethernet stops at 100 metres. ONV's long-distance PoE models trade port speed for reach — 10M over 250 metres — so perimeter and corridor cameras get power and data on a single run.

The 100-metre channel limit is the most common surprise in camera projects: the perimeter camera is 180 metres from the cabinet, the warehouse aisle runs 220. The usual fixes — a mid-span switch in a field box, or fiber with a media converter — both add cost and a powered device outdoors. The long-distance PoE models in the ONV catalogue take a third route: their ports drop to 10M and drive the signal up to 250 metres over Cat5, power included.
The trade is explicit: 10M is ample for a camera stream (a 4K H.265 camera typically runs 8–16 Mbps) but useless for data devices. That is why the feature lives on camera switches — enabled per model or per port group, with gigabit uplinks preserved for the aggregated traffic. Where a run exceeds 250 metres, or full gigabit must reach the far end, the extender and fiber pages cover the alternatives.

Map your longest runs before choosing the fix. Under 100 m: any model. 100–250 m with camera-class bandwidth: a long-distance model. Over 250 m, or gigabit required at the device: a PoE extender mid-span, or fiber to a media converter with local power. Mixing is normal — a long-distance switch in the cabinet plus fiber for the one outbuilding run. The blog's distance guide works through the physics and the options.
Perimeter fences, warehouses and logistics aisles, parking areas, corridors, lift shafts and any site where the camera is simply far from the cabinet.
Lower signalling rates tolerate the attenuation and crosstalk of a long cable far better. A camera stream fits in 10M; the switch's uplinks stay gigabit, so only the long leg is slowed.
Yes — the long-distance models apply the mode to the PoE ports as a class or group per the model's datasheet, while uplinks remain at full speed. Check the specific model's datasheet for how the mode is enabled (hardware switch or management setting).
