PoE Switch · Layer 3
A Layer 3 PoE switch routes between VLANs while it powers the devices on them — collapsing core and access into one box for flat and mid-size networks.

Most PoE switches switch; an L3 PoE switch also routes. Put one at the centre of a mid-size network and it segments camera, office and guest VLANs, routes between them at wire speed, powers every access device on its 24–48 PoE ports, and uplinks at 10G — the entire network core in one rack unit. ONV's L3 PoE series counts 10 dedicated models, with further L3 managed PoE in the industrial line.
The pattern suits networks that have outgrown a flat unmanaged design but do not yet justify separate core and access layers: schools, hotels, mid-size campuses, hospital wings and large surveillance estates with central NVRs.

Choose L3 PoE when three conditions meet: the network has (or will have) multiple VLANs that must talk under policy, the device count fits one or two switches' ports, and one operations point is a virtue rather than a risk. Beyond that scale, separate the layers — L3 PoE access switches under a dedicated core remain a valid pattern, and the industrial line offers L3 PoE for harsh sites.
Schools and campuses, hotels, hospitals, mid-size enterprises and centralised surveillance networks with routed segmentation.
The L3 switch routes at wire speed between local VLANs — faster and simpler for local traffic. A router still owns the WAN edge, firewalling and NAT. Most designs use both: L3 PoE at the centre, a router at the border.
For a mid-size single-site network, yes — it is the design this series is built for. Keep a configuration backup and a recovery plan, as with any single-box core.
